OLIVER
Oliver has difficulties to deal with as he was damaged at birth. These affect him both mentally and physically but he is an intelligent man and has a quiet dignity in his manner. In conversation, his mother once said ‘Ollie does not find some things easy but inside his head he is pure gold’. That comment decided my approach to this piece, which is carved in limewood

OLIVER
The inside of the woodcarving is deeply concave and is finished with gilders’ paper, 8 coats of gesso, double gilded with 23.5 carat gold leaf and finished with a protective coat.
Limewood mounted onto purpleheart plinth.
CORNUCOPIA
This woodcarving is a gift from a husband to his wife. This lady enjoys vegetable gardening so carved as one piece is a cornucopia from which vegetables are toppling. The names of all the vegetables begin with ‘P’ or ‘S’ - the lady’s initials. Also tumbling out is a rock - her husband’s name, Peter. Built into the design are other references to special interests they shared.
Limewood and purpleheart.

A simple woodcarving of this little seabird with silver sand eels in its beak. It is perched on Cornish serpentine rock.

THE SWALLOWS’ BOWL
As the leaves are blown off the branch and swirl around the rim of the bowl, they gradually change into swallows. When the change is complete, the birds land on the branch for the cycle to begin again.
All carved as one piece of limewood; nothing is glued.

Life-size masks in limewood and American black walnut. I made this woodcarving to try and get those who judge others to think first.
